SPECT imaging is REQUIRED! Acquire SPECT images with a LFOV camera equipped with a low-energy high-resolution collimator. A multi-head LFOV camera is preferable and even though a 64 X 64 matrix is acceptable, in most cases the 128 X 128 X 16 produces better results. SPECT of the pelvis should be performed immediately after the patient voids, SPECT of the abdomen should be performed last. Two separate SPECT scans should be acquired. Do not attempt to fit the entire abdomen and pelvis into a single SPECT study, as parts of the image will be cut off.
Multi-head camera:
Acquire separate scans of 1) the lower abdomen and pelvis, and 2) the upper abdomen with
the liver centered in the field of view. Use a 360-degree "step and shoot"
technique. Acquire images for 30-40 seconds per stop, with a maximum of 3-degree steps
(120 or 128 stops), using a 128 x 128-word matrix.
Single-head camera:
SPECT the pelvis and abdomen, in two separate scans, as described in the previous
paragraph. Use a 360-degree "step and shoot" technique. Acquire images for 30-40
seconds per stop, with a maximum of 6-degree steps (60 or 64 stops), using a 128x128-word
matrix.
