Same-day imaging, interpretation

Tc99m has a 6-hour half life, enabling nuclear medicine physicians to image patients about 3 hours after injection, using readily available SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography…"nuclear CT") cameras. The short half-life of technetium, coupled with the small molecular-weight fragment, allows for rapid clearance from the blood and organs and early localization at tumor sites.
