At IMMUNOMEDICS, we are committed to improving the prospects for cancer patients by developing better methods of detection, diagnosis and therapy. Although the diagnosis of cancer is a shock for the patient and family, about 4 of every 10 patients in the U.S. and Europe will be free of disease or cured five or more years after early diagnosis.

Colorectal cancer is among the most prevalent cancers, being second among those affecting both men and women. As with many other cancers, it can be managed better and lead to better survival if it is diagnosed early, when the primary tumor has not yet spread (metastasis), and if a better assessment of recurrence and extent of disease can be made during regular follow-up monitoring and choosing therapeutic options.

As medical research advances, it is our conviction that colorectal cancer will become one of the major cancers that can be treated effectively and even cured. Until that time, however, we at Immunomedics are committed to researching new methods to detect and diagnose this cancer when it is still amenable to curative surgery, and to improve current treatments by ushering in the use of the same biological molecules used for CEA-Scan diagnosis - monoclonal antibodies - as a new treatment modality that may enhance the prospects of chemotherapy, external-beam irradiation, and other biological agents in current use or under development.
